Sex and the City fashion: Charlotte York

As the true Sex and the City fan that I am I have decided to do a post for each of my 4 favourite New York girls (their characters that is, not their 'real' selves).
They are 4 best friends who knows pretty much everything about each other, but they are still 4 completely different personalities, with their own personal styles.
First up is Charlotte York. Charlotte is the most emotional, naive and traditional of the SATC girls, and people often see her as quite prude and conservative.She prefers a look that is very natural and classic, and she often wears pencil skirts and dresses that does not reveal much flesh. At the same time she has got a thing for very girly garments, with bright colours and flowery patterns that reflect her constant optimism.
Charlotte would never take a fashion risk like Carrie would, and she has got enough self control not to end up buying items on an impuls. Some would call her style a bit boring. I would simply call it classic, elegant and sophisticated.Party: Charlotte would normally go for something simple and colourful when out for some cocktails with the other girls.
Casual: Casual for Charlotte means cute, and that's when she likes to wear really girly colours and patterns.
Work: A typical work outfit for Charlotte would be a pencil dress in a neutral colour.
Special occasion: When it's a special occasion Charlotte dresses up as a real fashion queen with ruffles, glitz and glam. Often in very dramatic colours.

The unforgettable style of Marilyn Monroe

One of the greatest fashion icons of the 20th century is the legendary Marilyn Monroe who taught us that diamonds are a girl's best friend. She had a lasting effect on Hollywood, and there has been many stars who have copied her style, such as Madonna, Anna Nicole Smith, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Christina Aguilera and Michelle Williams. But all of these women don't even have half the beauty, class, grace and sophistication that Marilyn had.

The famous actress Megan Fox has a tribute tattoo of the late Marilyn on her right arm, as a reminder never to let the film industry treat her so badly that it breaks her down.
The white flowing halter-neck dress and the blood red lips are the attributes that characterise Marilyn Monroe, and this combination is a style that will forever be a classic look, and that will never go out of style.

The Herald Sun from last week wrote an article on this particular dress from the 1955 film "Seven Year Itch". On the 18th on June this year Marilyn's white dress is being auctioned by an iconic film costumes collector in Beverly Hills, and is expected to be sold for $2.000.000

Marilyn Monroe should have had her 85th birthday yesterday, on the 1st on June.

Luxury custom made bridal shoes

Don’t get me wrong here… I don’t have any plans to get married in the near future (not for many years!), I just happened to come across these beautiful bridal shoes while browsing around the internet the other day, and I just needed to share them here on Fashion Infatuation. And no, I was NOT daydreaming about weddings, or anything like that. It was all random. Promise!

Anyway, don’t you agree with me that these shoes are something special? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pair of bridal shoes this gorgeous! (Not that I’ve seen many…)

If I ever get married (that’s IF) I would definitely want a pair of shoes like these. With the decorative details on the heel they are definitely something different from the classic bridal shoes (and probably a lot more expensive!)

Better start saving up, and practising my sky scraper heel-walking if I want to be able to wear shoes like these…

Green Dream - Christina's dress in Burlesque

Yesterday I had one of those lazy days in, just watching film all day. It was Sunday after all, so I was allowed. Anyway, I ended up watching the film Burlesque, starring Christina Aguilera and Cher. I don’t know what I expected of it really, but I was positively surprised. I guess I thought it would be a bit cheesy with the whole “small town girl goes to LA and becomes a star overnight”, but it was actually really good. Great film debut from Christina. And OMG, has she got a great voice or what?! Impressive!

Now, I am not writing this post to talk about the film itself or Christina’s voice, but I am writing it to tell you about a fashion piece that made a short appearance in the film. It’s not a typical burlesque outfit with corsets, fishnet tights and skyscraper heels that I want to highlight (even though there were plenty of them in the film). Nor is it Christina’s teeny, tiny, very revealing outfit made entirely of pearls (and not very many of them), but something more elegant.

I completely fell in love with this beautiful green satin dress from designer Michael Kaplan, that Christina wears in one of the scenes while singing the song “Bound to You”. The whole look with the soft, curly hairstyle and the dramatic makeup is absolutely gorgeous.

Green is the colour of envy, right? Well, Christina Aguilera is making every girl out there (especially me) envious for looking so stunning in this dress. This is definitely the dress of my dreams!

O'hoy! Lovely nautical, sailor inspired fashion

So the summer is right around the corner, finally! It’s almost here, I can feel it! And with summer comes my favourite kind of fashion - a trend that comes back every summer, and that never goes out of style; the nautical, sailor inspired style.

This look, with its blue and white stripes (and perhaps a little bit of red thrown in there), is the ultimate summer look. The world will just never get tired of it (I know I definitely won’t).

It’s such a fresh looking style, and it’s almost as if you can feel the ocean breeze when you see these sailor garments, don’t you think? ;) I especially like the striped Tommy Hilfiger denim ballerinas, and the Stella striped bikini.

For this summer, I have invested in a really cute blue and white striped nautical halter neck bikini (not the one in the picture though) and I am almost certain that it will be joined by a few other sailor inspired items in a very near future.

Maxi dresses and Nicole Richie's boho style

Last summer the most popular fashion item was the maxi dress. Personally, I wasn’t a fan. I tried a couple on while shopping around for summer clothes, but I didn’t really like them so I never bought one. Everywhere you looked, people was wearing colourful, flowing maxi dresses last summer. Some suited it more than others. I think this is a great style if you’ve got some curves. If you’re slim, you just look super skinny in a maxi dress.

One skinny person that actually does suite this style though, is Nicole Richie. Her whole look just screams boho, and it just suits her perfectly. Everything from the patterned dresses and baggy tunics, to the hair and accessories. Doesn’t she just look gorgeous in these pictures?

Since the boho and the 1970’s styles are some of the most popular styles even this year, what better to invest in than a maxi dress? I actually bought my first one the other week. I’m not a fan of bold patterns, so the one I bought is just one colour - light purple (almost lavender) with a built in bra, and a crochet back. I bet it’s gonna be my favourite dress this spring, and I can’t wait until I can show it off in the streets of Rome in May! :D Just need to find some sandals to go with it…

Denim love

I decided to treat myself the other day, and went for a shopping trip with my housemate. The problem with me is that when I’m in the mood for shopping I can never find anything that I want to buy. It started off like this on Saturday when I was in town. I was wandering around in the shops, barely even looking at the clothes. Just gave them a quick glance and thought “ugly”… I almost gave up straight away. But then I figured I needed a new pair of jeans. I only own two pairs of jeans that I actually wear, and one of them is extremely worn out, with ripped knees. (No, I didn’t rip them on purpose like I might have done when I was 15. They just got ripped cause I’ve loved them too much. You know what they say… love hurts.)

So on Saturday I saw these dark denim, super tight jeans with a bit of a bootcut from NEXT. I’ve always done the mistake before of buying jeans my normal size, but after a week or so they’re always too big for some reason!? I’ve tried washing them in 90 degrees, but they just don’t shrink back to the original size again. So this time I squeezed into a size 8. Could barely move the first day, (let alone bend my knees!) but now they’re a perfect fit, and I just looove them!

I was thinking about a story my mum told me, about how they had really big fitting rooms back in the 1970’s, with benches to lay down on when they put their jeans on. Apparently this was the only way to do it, if you wanted to be able to squeeze into those skin tight jeans. She also told me that they were bathing with their jeans on, and let them dry while keeping them on so that they shaped themselves after the legs. Rubbing sand on them to make them look worn out was also popular – a thing my grandpa wasn’t very fond of…
